Privacy Policy — ExitBrief

ExitBrief ("ExitBrief", the "App", "we", "us", "our") is operated by Outercircle Pty Ltd (ABN 75 908 776 659 · ACN 679 663 391), a company registered in Australia ("the Company"). This policy explains what we do — and, more importantly, do not do — with information when you use the App.

We have built ExitBrief to be private by design. We do not run analytics, we do not show ads, we do not use tracking SDKs, and we have no user accounts or logins.

The short version

We don't collect, store, or sell your personal information.
Almost everything you do in the App stays on your device, in local storage that never reaches us.
One feature can send data off your device, and it is off until you turn it on: AI answers in Ask. With it off, Ask searches the app's own content on your device — no network, no server. With it on, only your typed question and the recent messages in that chat are sent to an AI provider to be answered. We never see them.
If paid subscriptions are added later, they're billed by Apple or Google, not by us — we never see your card or payment details.

1. Information stored on your device only

The App stores the following locally, in your device or browser storage. This data never leaves your device, is never transmitted to us, and we cannot see it:

Your theme preference (dark / light mode) and "Plain Talk" reading preference
Bookmarks and saved sections
Your onboarding answers and journey/progress tracking
Documents you add to the Documents vault
Entries in My Specialists (e.g. your GP, physio, psychologist details)
Your Ask AI conversation history
A count of how many free Ask AI questions you have used

This information is removed when you delete it in the App, clear your browser/app storage, or uninstall the App.

2. What stays on your device, and the one thing that doesn't

Your documents, your progress, your bookmarks, your specialists, and your conversation history all stay on your device. We do not transmit them anywhere, and we have no way to read them.

There is exactly one feature that sends anything off your device, and it is off until you turn it on: AI answers in Ask.

With AI answers off (the default)

Ask answers from a keyword search that runs entirely on your device. No network, no server, nothing transmitted.

With AI answers on

You turn this on yourself, after a screen explaining what it does, and you can turn it off again at any time in More. While it is on:

The question you type, and the recent messages in that conversation, are sent to an AI provider so it can write a reply.
Nothing else is sent — no name, no account, no device identifier, no documents, and nothing else stored in the App.
We never see it. ExitBrief has no server and no accounts. We do not receive, store, or have any means of reading what you send.
Our provider processes the question to generate the reply. Under the terms we use, it does not use your questions to train its models, and retains them only briefly for security and abuse monitoring. Your questions are never sold, shared for advertising, or used to build a profile of you.

> Once a question is sent, we cannot promise it stays between you and this App. Ask > freely about the system — how the Gold Card works, what a claim needs, what a term > means. Leave out your name, service number, and anything from your medical file. You > never need them to get a useful answer, and the App will never ask for them.

Your Ask conversation is stored on your device and clears itself after 7 days of inactivity. You can delete it sooner using "Forget this conversation".

3. Subscriptions and payments

ExitBrief is currently free. If optional paid subscriptions are introduced in a future update, they will be sold and processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on your device.

We never receive, see, or store your payment card or billing details.
Apple and Google manage the purchase, renewal, and any refunds, and handle that information under their own privacy policies.
The App only stores, on your device, a record of which tier you are on so it can show the right features.

4. What we do not do

No analytics or usage tracking
No advertising or ad networks
No third-party tracking SDKs
No crash/telemetry reporting that identifies you
No selling, renting, or sharing of personal information — we have none to share

5. Children

ExitBrief is intended for adult veterans, families, and supporters. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

6. Your privacy rights (Australia)

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Because we do not hold personal information about you on our systems, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf — your data lives on your device and is under your control.

If you believe we have mishandled your information, you may contact us (below) and you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

7. Security

Data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security. The app does not transmit your data, so there is no central store to breach. No method of storage is ever 100% secure, but we minimise risk by collecting nothing.

8. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, note it in the App Store / Google Play release notes. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the updated policy.
